The Government Quarter in Oslo

SLA's work with the public spaces for the new Government Quarter in Oslo, which was damaged during the attack in July 2011, shows that demands for security and a living urban center are not mutually exclusive. The quarter's new urban spaces are designed so that they both provide safety and terrorism prevention, while at the same time enhance Oslo's city life. The focal point of the new Government Quarter will be a new recreational park which provides new connections, views and social activities for visitors and daily workers of the Government Quarter. At the same time, the park serves as a worthy memorial site, providing calm, respectful surroundings for silence and mourning.
